Dear Memoirists,
It’s about time I returned, no? After my break away, I’m back and ready to reset—and I have a lot of things cooking to tell you about.
Because we’re resetting, this won’t be a post on the craft of writing. Rather, it is a brief newsletter on the art of resetting.
what’s up with the resetting thing?
Yes. I slowed down a bit for a while on all aspects of what I was doing, including my own writing. There’s no need to discuss why, as that’s irrelevant. Honestly, there doesn’t even need to be a why. That’s the ebb and flow of life.
What’s relevant is the guilt and shame we often take on as the feeling, empathetic sort—as we writers so often like to call ourselves—and how that impacts our ability to reset.
Resetting is not a bad thing.
Resetting is necessary.
Resetting is like changing a dead battery in a remote control.
Resetting is a valuable part of being an artist.
It allows us to clear our minds and look at our work with a fresh lens.
It gives us a break. We are allotted break time in any other job, and there’s a reason for that. We should be cognizant about allowing ourselves break time with our writing professions as well otherwise, burnout may be imminent.
It gives us time to explore other things and stop thinking so much.
If you take a break or take time to reevaluate your goals, there is nothing wrong with that. It is strong…and it is smart. And sometimes resets are not our choice. Sometimes resets are pushed on us due to work, family, mental health, or any other facet of life.
Resetting The Art of Memoir.
I’m in the process of resetting and refining several areas of my work. The Art of Memoir has been on my mind lately. I knew I needed to tackle Substack and wanted to do some rebranding and rethinking in terms of my value add for both my free and paid subscribers.
I’ve also been working on some projects with my creative partner that has opened up some doors and helped shape the rethinking I needed to do so that I could come back with my plans in pocket and an excited attitude.
my plans.
Now that I’ve completed my rebranding of AM, I’m excited to move ahead with my next steps. Being a visual person, as weird as that sounds, having a new look and feel goes a long way for me in terms of feeling…organized.
Here is where I’m going with my little piece of Substack.
Free Subscriptions: Those of you with free subscriptions will continue to have access to my AM newsletters.
The AM newsletters will continue to have writing tips and dialogue.
Paid Subscriptions: To be perfectly honest, I wasn’t quite sure what I wanted to do with my paid subscribers. Now that I’ve reset, I’ve been able to refine my vision going forward. For those of you with a $5.00/mo. subscription, here is what you can expect in addition to my newsletters:
Access to a special The Art of Memoir podcast
Access to the private Discord channel for The Memoirist
Access to group chat
An option for a 30-min chat with me and review of one of your pieces for feedback and advice
Access to downloadables
Special previews
I have a lot more brewing on the horizon, but I feel great about my personal reset. Paid members, you can expect my first special podcast very soon.
Until next time, with more on The Art of Memoir…
